A Quiet Beckoning

Like clockwork the changing of seasons beckons me to ask the LORD what He has for me in this next quarter of the year.  This season happened to be the blossoming of summer. As I sat on my back porch in the crisp morning air I stared at the forest that so recently was bare but was now covered in lush green leaves that clapped their hands in the breeze. I heard the different variety of birds that sang their morning songs while foraging for worms. I watched the squirrels play leaping from tree to tree with zero abandon. My heart was captured in the beauty of it all. I thanked God for His creation and prayed about what the LORD wanted me to do this summer for Him. I opened my Bible to seek Him and found that God did not want me to do anything this summer as I so often believe. I am the type that always has to be doing something. If I am sitting still I feel antsy, uncomfortable and lazy. So when I am asking the LORD for something to do I really REALLY need the to do list, the purpose, but this morning as I read the Bible His response surprised me. He was not looking for me to do something but He was whispering for my heart to listen and embrace that He loves me and that He already did everything.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him may not perish but may have eternal life.” John 3:16

Jesus died so that I can live and know that I am loved. My response in return is to finally be ok with sitting still, sitting in awe of His goodness and remembering that He died for me. I accepted that love and responded that I love Him in return. So, in response maybe you are looking for what God wants you to do and maybe He is tenderly reminding you that it is not about what you do but it is about your response to the love He has for you. Will you dismiss His love or will you accept His love? Are you willing to sit in His tender embrace or does the to do list of life keep you running without rest? Will you submit your life to Him or submit your life to the demands of the world? The to do is not the beckoning. Jesus beckons our hearts to Him and it is the acceptance of His love and the sharing of His love that really matters in this life. Everything we do on a daily basis should flow from these two things: accepting His love and sharing His love to the world around us. Following Jesus is simple and yet leads to an extravagance that once it is tasted you will never want to return to the blandness of life before Christ. Taste and see that He is good.

“I taste and see that the LORD is good; happy are those who take refuge in Him.” Psalm 34:8
